Snippet 5 – Dr. Matthias Khatchadourian
(3-minute reading)
One might wonder which is more important for an Orgtologist’s job: influence or understanding?
Last day, I read a post on the 10 influential people in one of the Arabian Gulf countries. That impressed many “likers”.
With respect to all public figure influencers, this world won’t need them a lot, soon.
In the next industrial revolution(s) algorithm will perform with zero PR.
For an influencer, Public Relations is a daily ‘food’ to survive on. Maintaining a public figure and reputation is the biggest risk for an influencer – if not taken care of.
But things will be different for influencers in the near future. Personal branding and influence will lose its relevance.
There will be a high demand for “collective wisdom“.
The world will no more trust and follow individuals who have thousands of followers.
The crowd will be the new influencer. Micro-communities will play a bigger role.
This world is already oversaturated with infleuncers and they are losing their relevance.
You may have observed that consumers are already experiencing influencer fatigue because of too many ads but not enough substance.
When everyone’s an influencer, no one is. I can apply this philosophy to many life aspects. If all become actors, we won’t have audience. If all become leaders, there won’t be followers.
We can’t be everything. But we can be part of something. The collective wisdom suggests that “I am we” (an Orgtology perspective)
Probably, many of the influencers will not survive the next revolutions by standing alone. We all need to be part of a community.
This implies to organizations as well. Teams will be the public figure and not individuals. Team performance is to create relevance for jobs.
In fact, team innovation will hold more value than lifestyle promoters.
Brands and audiences will invest more in purpose-driven knowledge and transformation and not just visibility like the current world is manifesting.
Believe it or not, your personal branding will be less significant than when you join a community of dynamic team performers.
Current influencers focus on visibility and impression. This will change. Impact will surely take over the impressions.
This is why the aim of the International Orgtology Institute is to establish as many Orgtology communities as possible throughout the world.
Orgtologists create a collective wisdom not an individual impression. We carry the title of an Orgtologist not to influence others on social platforms but to show them we are part of a community.
It seems that the coming revolutions will be speedier than the previous ones. In a fast-growing world this is not only true but believable.
This speediness will shift the trust and attention of audience from charismatic individuals to credible teams.
On the other hand, Orgtologists understand that keeping skills and talents in departments will create silos because they are not cross-pollinating their work with what others do in other departments.
Orgtologists have a holistic understanding of work being produced in the organization.
If one does not see the interdependency of work being produced in a department with what work is produced through other activities elsewhere in the organization, then he or she is not an Orgtologist.
Therefore, an Orgtologist is busy understanding things. Probably, influence will only mean something for others if understanding is first secured.
Hence, It is possible to influence without fully understanding. However, in the process of understanding, some level of influence is often inevitable.
